A Bit About Me

Hello! As you probably...hopefully...know by now, my name is Tara Nunimaker. What you may not know is I'm the past President of the NAEA Student Chapter at NAU and currently it's Secretary/Webmaster. The Student Chapter also has a ning social network which is our central, soon to be cohesive, mecca for everything NAEA at NAU. Please join and share your ideas about the chapter. E-mail me to join: TLN27@nau.edu and put "I want to Join" in the subject line, please. ;}

As for my own personal life, I enjoy listening to and making music immensely. I would have been a music teacher (I've played a variety of instruments since I was 8), but I prefer to keep that in my own little world of experimentation and freedom.

As for art, I have been honing my skills as a flameworker (think glass blowing, but on a smaller scale) for 10 years now and was an apprentice for a glass production company before I attended school. I've also done stained glass for close to a decade and dabbled in fusing a bit as well.

In addition to glass manipulation, I also enjoy jewelry/metalsmithing, painting, all types of drawing, intaglio, and bronze and mixed-media sculpture. I'm kind of a jack of all trades, which is cool and all, but I can never decide which medium I want to work with next and often have many projects going on at the same time. I also like working in a variety of styles, from surreal and abstract to photo-realistic. I'm also slowly immersing myself into graphic design.

Basically, when it comes down to it, I love all art and can't wait to get through those first turbulent years of teaching so I can learn how to love to teach it! ;}

Toilet Art!

What is art? Well, like any good art teacher, Duchamp asked himself this same question. He decided to turn a toilet into a "fountain" and drove art critics insane! Now you can share some of the glory. Check out this page to get a free "R. Mutt, 1917" sticker for you to place anywhere your little artistic heart desires and get people thinking about what art is and what it can be!

To Trace or Not to Trace....

Okay, so I'm in the SITE program this year and I'm thinking there may be some issues. For anyone who may be reading this who doesn't know what the SITE program is, it's a program at the NAU College of Education through which you take all of your education courses at the same time and do your practicum with Sedona Red Rock high school. The advantages of this program are that you have a more cohesive, connected program and more experience. So far I'm having a great time taking all my classes at on… Continue

That Gosh Darn AEPA!!!

Okay, so I passed the AEPA subject knowledge test. At first, I was completely proud of myself with this accomplishment. Only one more test to go (the AEPA professional knowledge test) and I'll be a certified art educator (assuming I don't completely blow it during student teaching). It was a liberating feeling at first, but then I got back the official letter graphically displaying how well I did on each section.

From how the test went when I was actually taking it, I thought I would be high on… Continue
